Denali Borough
Community Change Grant Application
This grant application was submitted on November 18th, 2024. It was a joint application between the Denali Borough and the Denali Community Foundation, with supporting partners Denali Borough School DIstrict.
The Community Change grant focus was funding for community-driven projects that address climate challenges and reduce pollution while strengthening disadvantaged communities. With the regional increase in significant wildfire activity, and the continued spread of bark beetle tree kill, with high threat assessment as seen in the Denali Borough CWPP’s, applying for this grant made sense.
In the Denali Borough, our brick and mortar schools serve dual purpose as our emergency response and evacuation hubs. Thus, many of these projects benefit these multifunctional facilities.
The grant submission includes $17.9 million to be divided between a large number of projects which include, but are not limited to:
- New air filtration systems for all three Denali Borough schools
- Solar and power upgrades to all three Denali Borough schools
- Fireproof siding where required for all three Denali Borough Schools
- Replacement of Tri-Valley School septic system
- Roof replacement for Tri-Valley Community Center
- Elevator replacement for Tri-Valley Community Center
- Boiler replacement for Tri-Valley Community Center
- Kitchen modification for McKinley Village Community Center
- General repairs and upgrades related to emergency hub capabilities for McKinley Village Community Center
- Emergency reponse equipment and supplies, such as mobile response trailer and MRE supplies for community emergency response
- Training funds for local fire departments
